THE MAXWELL STREET KLEZMER BAND

Named for Chicago's colorful Sunday market of the 1900s, Maxwell Street Klezmer Band delights audiences with their joyous interpretation of the music of Jewish Eastern Europe. Founded in 1983 by Lori Lippitz, the band has played in Carnegie Hall, toured in Europe, and recorded five CDs. The laughing, crying voices of the clarinet and violin recall the lost world of the "shtetl" and early days of immigration to America. Audiences of all ages and backgrounds find their enthusiasm and humor infectious.
